News, Notes + Happenings from the Commodore

upcoming annual meeting

Our 2019 season is rapidly approaching and I wanted to send a quick note to all of you that our annual meeting will be held on December 1st at Rob and Mares Crane's house. The meeting will begin at 6PM. We will be electing this years officers and board members so please attend if you are on island. We will be sending out a more formal invitation as well as a posting on our new website soon

July member news

Those of you who are still on island are probably glued to your computers hoping Beryl will give us a wide berth. While club activities are slow right now our young sailors are busy as ever. I am forwarding to you a letter that Carlos DiBlasi just sent me about Mateo's latest accomplishments. We have been supporting Mateo's sailing for years now and it sure looks like he is going places!!!!!

The Opti North Americans were just held in Vallarta Yacht Club in Mexico. Several VI sailors competed among them Mateo's younger brother Alejo and Winn Majette. Alejo scored the first "bullet" in the competition and went on to place 19th out of 150 boats. Winn finished in the top third of the 150 boats and told me the other day it was not one of her best regattas but she learned a lot!! Winn and Catha Majette are going up to Florida for three weeks for a two week clinic then to compete in the nationals in Pensacola where there will be the nationals as well as girls championship and team racing! As you know we have also supported Alejo and the Majette's.

I would still like to hold a couple of beach and boat days this summer and now that carnival is over we can maybe find a weekend that some of us are free. Send me an email if you have a weekend in mind that works for you. I just received a package from our treasurer Joyce with many of you new members cards in it. I would like to hand them out at an event!!! And finally new members Becky Reinbold and Cynthia Swan are busy building us a new website.
